CARSON -- A 1-year-old girl is alive today thanks to the heroic actions of two Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputies. The 911 call came in at about 9:30 pm on Saturday, July 28, 2018. The girl had reportedly choked while eating pasta and was no longer breathing. Deputies Melvin Castro and Omar Sanchez were first on scene. Castro, a training deputy, chose to begin CPR while Sanchez drove to nearby Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, rather than wait for paramedics. Through a coordinated effort involving several other patrol units, other deputies worked to keep intersections clear so that the child could be transported to the hospital without delay. Thanks to their immediate life-saving efforts, the child was released from the hospital after 3 days and has fully recovered. Read more at KTLA.
